Planned Giving and Endowment

Gifts to the Minsi Trails Council Endowment Fund are a way to leave a lasting legacy, make a difference, and help secure Scouting's future.  It is one of the best ways to ensure that local Scouting can continues to offer its outstanding programs long into the future and grows to meet the needs of the youth and it serves.

Planned Giving

Most of us have heard of the term endowment fund, but what does it really mean?  An endowment is a fund held in perpetuity to provide earnings for the benefit of a charitable cause.  That is a textbook definition, but in reality an endowment is the life preserver of a charitable organization.  To be healthy and stable, Minsi Trails Council needs to meet its current operating budget, without exerting 100% of its energy on fundraising.  After all, our mission is to provide our Scouts with a quality program that enriches their character, leadership, and achievement.  For more information contact Don Sachs, Director of Development at 610-465-8572. Please click here for a copy of the Endowment Brochure

Leave a Legacy to Scouting
If you are like many individuals, Scouting's been important to you throughout your life. As you remember your great experiences in Scouting as a youth or parent ... please think about your legacy to Scouting by including the Minsi Trails Council Endowment Fund in your will, insurance or estate plan. Endowment Recognition & Societies

Minsi Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America offers three endowment recognition award programs.  These awards  are presented to donors who support Scouting's financial future through gifts to the endowment fund

The James E. West Fellowship

This award is named after James E. West, the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.  Dr. West exemplified Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that "an institution is the lengthened shadow of one man."  Scouting today is the "lengthened shadow" of the farseeing and dedicated leadership of Dr. James E. West.  Those who are recognized with a James E. West Fellowship Award will cast their own "lengthened shadow" as they help ensure the Scouting legacy for future generations of young people in Minsi Trails Council.

The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or marketable securities to  the Minsi Trails Council Endowment Trust Fund.  This gift must be in addition to and not replace or diminish the donor's annual Friends of Scouting support.  Many individuals and organizations make these gifts on behalf of someone else such as to honor an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, a retirement, a special accomplishment, an anniversary or in memory of a special individual.  The James E. West Fellowship Award is recognized with a personalized certificate.  In addition, a distinctive lapel pin and an exclusive knot for the uniform are presented at a special recognition program. The recipient is also included in special Minsi Trails Council events and mailings.

Second Century Society

This special society is for an outright gift of $25,000 or more payable over five years, or a deferred gift of $25,000 or more to Minsi Trails Council for operating, capital, or endowment. Donors making outright gifts of $100,000 or more are designated as “Members with Distinction.” Donors making deferred gifts of $500,000 or more are designated as “Legacy Members.” Members in these categories receive special recognition and opportunities provided by the BSA Foundation.  Second Century Society members are recognized with a member lapel pin and certificate. Members giving at least $100,000 also receive a framed Rockwell print and a custom Second Century insignia item.

The Heritage Society

The Heritage Society recognizes individuals who contribute to Minsi Trails Council’s Endowment Fund or provide documentation of a bequest.  The gift for membership in the Heritage Society is $10,000. Membership is recognized by a special Heritage Society Pin, inclusion in the Council’s Heritage Society Plaque, and invitation to the annual Heritage Society event.  Bequests and gifts to the Endowment Fund help ensure Scouting has the financial resources necessary to carry out its vital mission. A gift made today is an investment in the long term future of local Scouting.  Membership in the Heritage Society is available to individuals who contribute to the Council Endowment Fund by:
